About Tai Chi

Tai Chi Chuan was developed centuries ago as a series of relaxation exercises, a system of self defense and to aid meditation. It is excellent for improving both mind and body.
Through slow flowing movements, Tai Chi increases strength and muscle tone, enhances range of motion and flexibility, and improves balance and coordination.

All Tai Chi movements balance pairs of opposites, e.g. left and right, yield and thrust, etc., which reflect the attempt to harmonize the two opposing forces of yin and yang.
Tai Chi is meditation in action in which precision movements and controlled breathing are synchronized to enable the practitioner to flow with the direction of bio-electrical energy (chi) in and around the body.

There are many styles of Tai Chi Chuan. Gentle Path Tai Chi Chuan Association practices in the Yang Style taught by Grandmaster Chen Man-Ching, under the guidance of our teacher, Sifu Joseph Prignano.
